Citizen Journalism Sites
As part of Agaric Design’s commitment to both localism and social entrepreneurship, dynamic web sites for local independent media, self-supporting reporters, and citizen journalists are a natural core competence.
We are committed to pioneering new forms of financing the investigation and dissemination of truth that is the lifeblood of justice, democracy, and a free society. While the completely non-commercial stances of such national and international news outlets as The NewStandard and the Fund for Authentic Journalism-supported Narco News Bulletin strike us as particularly bold and important experiments in independent newspaper reporting, the real strength of an honest media system will be built locality by locality, just as a fair economy must ultimately be built from below.
Our commitment to social entrepreneurship means we will try especially hard to work with organizations, groups, collectives, businesses, and new ventures that, with our help, can hope to achieve important social goals as well as, when necessary, sustaining themselves through some source of money.
Independent local and citizen journalism continues to prove to be one of the most viable models for the expansion of access to needed information, they afford a very exciting opportunity for Agaric Design to partner with local people who know their towns and can fill sites we create with compelling content, ultimately engaging their community as co-reporters in a collective purpose capable, in many cases, of better journalism than commercial sources facing budget constraints.
The power of open source opens this possibility, and Agaric Design is here to be a part of it.
